Science-Based Psychotherapies, Their Schools and the Process of Change

Psychotherapy is a journey of recovery, supported by scientific methods, in which you explore yourself, your emotions and your behaviour patterns. In my clinical work I aim for lasting psychological change with evidence-based psychotherapy methods shaped around each client’s needs – in English or Turkish.

We use cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), which breaks unhelpful links between thoughts and behaviour; psychodynamic therapies, which focus on the depths of our inner world; EMDR therapy for trauma; and supportive psychotherapy, which offers a protective shield in times of crisis. Integrated within an individual treatment plan, these methods aim not only to relieve symptoms but to increase your functioning and psychological resilience in life. Below you can read about the therapy schools used at our practice, get more information and take the first step in your own process of change.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long does psychotherapy take? The length of therapy varies with the school used (CBT, psychodynamic, etc.) and the issue the client wants to work on. Short-term focused therapies may last 8–12 sessions, while therapies focused on personality structure can extend over a longer period.

2. Can psychotherapy and medication be used together? Yes. For many psychiatric conditions, combining medication with psychotherapy (combined treatment) is the most effective approach, scientifically proven to speed up recovery and make it last.

3. How is the confidentiality of sessions ensured? The most fundamental rule of psychotherapy is ethical confidentiality. Everything shared in sessions is kept strictly between client and doctor, except where required by law.

4. Which school of therapy is right for me? We decide this together at the first assessment session (history taking). Depending on the nature of the problem (for example CBT for panic attacks, or psychodynamic therapy for recurring relationship problems), the most suitable method is chosen and added to your individual treatment plan.

5. Is online psychotherapy as effective as face-to-face therapy? Yes. Research shows that online therapy carried out with suitable technology and a competent specialist is, in many cases, as effective as face-to-face sessions.
